OHIO INSURANCE PRELICENSING INFORMATION
Ohio requires producer licensing candidates to take and complete a state-approved prelicensing course. You will also need to apply for your license with the state insurance department and register for the state licensing exam. Make sure to register for all 3 (prelicensing course, license application, state exam) using the personally identifiable information exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID. Discrepancies will delay the licensing process.
LINE OF AUTHORITY | REQUIRED HOURS OF STUDY | |
---|---|---|
Life | 20 hours | |
Accident & Health | 20 hours | |
Property | 20 hours | |
Casualty | 20 hours | |
Personal Lines | 20 hours |
HOW DO I COMPLETE MY EXAMFX PRELICENSING EDUCATION COURSE?
Ohio requires 20 hours of prelicensing education for each line of authority.
To earn your certificate of completion:
- Read every chapter and take the end-of-chapter quiz scoring 70% or better before progressing to the next chapter.
- Spend at least 20 hours studying for each line of authority.
- Complete and pass the Certificate Exam with a minimum score of 70% and then sign and date the Affidavit/Attestation form(s).
Your exam will be based on the Ohio exam outline, which can be found in PSI's Candidate Bulletin.
DON'T FORGET YOUR READINESS EXAM!
ExamFX is so confident in the quality of its material that we offer our customers a first-time pass guarantee. If you don’t pass the first time around, we will refund your money. To qualify for this offer, you must pass our Readiness Exam with a score of 80% to determine maximum exam readiness. While completing this portion of your online course is not required, we highly recommend taking this extra step.
HOW DO I GET MY LICENSE?
Step 1: Complete a prelicensing course that has been approved by the Department of Insurance.
Step 2: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, PSI Exams. The fastest way to schedule your exam is to do so online at www.psiexams.com or call (855) 807-3995. Your exam may be taken at a physical PSI examination center or via a remote online proctored exam. Exam fees must be paid at the time of reservation.
To change or cancel your testing appointment, you must contact PSI Exams at least 48 hours in advance or forfeit the examination fee.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you register for ExamFX prelicensing courses, schedule your license exam, and/or apply for your license it is important to use the same name that appears on the identification forms you plan to present at the time of your testing appointment.
Step 3: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you two valid forms of government-issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.), one of which must contain your name and photograph. You must also provide your prelicensing certificate of completion. The certificate is valid for 180 days. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met.
NOTE: Candidates taking a remotely proctored exam must select to end both the exam portion and survey portion of the test to receive your on-screen results and emailed score report. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you two valid forms of government-issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.) which must contain your name and photograph. After the exam, results will be available immediately. Security measures are taken for all testing methods. Restrictions on what you may bring with you to the testing center, into the testing room, and what you may wear will be enforced. For more detailed information about the security measures that will be taken during your testing appointment, please read and review the candidate bulletin offered at PSI Exams.
Important: Candidates who complete their Ohio Insurance exam via remote proctoring MUST email their pre-licensing certificate(s) or education waiver(s) to [email protected] within 24 hours of passing the exam. The Department is unable to process any license application without receipt of the valid PLE certificate(s). Failure to timely submit the PLE certificate(s) WILL delay the licensure process.
Step 4: Complete an electronic criminal background check using National WebCheck. You may set an appointment online. More information about fingerprinting and background information is available at the Background Check page on the Ohio Department of Insurance’s website.
Step 5: Apply for your license at NIPR.
Step 6: Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements. Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of continuing education each licensing period. ExamFX offers CE courses that will help you comply with your state’s requirements. Click here to view your state’s education rules and stay on top of your license.
