REQUIRED HOURS

Producers in Minnesota must take 24 hours of continuing education, 3 of those hours being in Ethics, during each licensing period, every 2 years on the last day of licensee’s birth month.

Producers must complete their continuing education and have their credits posted 30 days prior to their license expiration date.

No more than 50% of the requirement can be company-sponsored courses. Carryover credit hours are not allowed, and courses may not be taken for credit more than once in the same licensing period.

CATEGORY RESTRICTIONS

There are no category restrictions in the state of Minnesota. Students may take credits in any line of insurance to satisfy the CE requirements.

SPECIAL TRAINING

• FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING – Minnesota Property & Casualty and Personal Lines licensed producers who sell National Flood Insurance Policies are required to take a one-time 3-hour course on Flood Insurance.

• ANNUITY BEST INTEREST TRAINING – Minnesota licensed producers must complete a state approved one-time 4-hour Best Interest Standards of Conduct for Annuity Sales course before selling, soliciting or negotiating any annuity products.

• LONG-TERM CARE TRAINING
Before a producer can sell or solicit Long-Term Care Insurance, they must complete a state approved, one-time 8-hour Long-Term Care Certification Training course. Producers must then complete a 4-hour ongoing training requirement every 2 years following the initial completion of the 8-hour training. The training must be specific to MN Medicaid/Medical Assistance and its relationship to MN Partnership plans.

COURSE PRESENTATION

• PROGRESSIVE – Licensees must progress through the curriculum topic by topic, and access all reading content and attempt all Study by Topic quizzes.

• CERTIFICATE EXAM – Licensees are required to pass the certificate exam with a 70% or better.

• STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – ExamFX requires that all Study by Topic quizzes be passed with at least a score of 70%.

• ATTESTATION – The attestation must be completed following the certificate exam.

CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION AND REPORTING

Your certificate of completion will be processed within two (2) business days and can be downloaded/printed from the "View Certificate(s)" link in the course launch portal. Completions are normally reported to the state entities within two (2) business days of the certificate having been issued.

NON-RESIDENT PRODUCERS

If you have satisfied the continuing education requirements of your home state, Minnesota will consider that as satisfaction of the CE requirements. Non-residents must complete training for LTC before selling LTC insurance products in Minnesota. Non-resident producers wishing to sell Minnesota LTC Partnership policies, and who have completed an initial 8-hour LTC Partnership course in another state, must take a 2-hour LTC training course, specific to Minnesota.

Non-residents must also complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours before selling annuity products. Completion of NAIC Annuity Best Interest training in another state is reciprocal in Minnesota.

CE EXEMPTIONS

The following individuals are exempt from Minnesota CE requirements:

• Individuals licensed for less than 6 months prior to the first renewal date are exempt for the first renewal period

• Individuals holding a limited lines license that does not require an exam

• Non-resident producers (except for the LTC requirement)
