Pennsylvania Insurance Prelicensing Information

📅 Updated April 25, 2025

🟠 ExamFX Provider #46929

Requirements Overview

Pennsylvania does not require licensing candidates to complete prelicensing education; however, ExamFX highly recommends that you complete an educational course before attempting to take your state's licensing exam.

How do I get my license?

Step 1 (optional): Complete an optional prelicensing course that helps prepare you to take and pass your licensing exam.

Step 2: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, PSI. The fastest way to schedule your exam is to do so online at PSI Exams or call (888) 818-5822. Your exam may be taken at a physical PSI examination center or via a remote online proctored exam. Exam fees must be paid at the time of reservation.

Step 3: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you one valid form of government issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.) which must contain your name and photograph. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met.

Security measures are taken for all testing methods. Restrictions on what you may bring with you to the testing center, into the testing room, and what you may wear will be enforced. For more detailed information about the security measures that will be taken during your testing appointment, please read and review the candidate bulletin offered at PSI Exams.

Your score will be displayed on screen at the end of the examination and a score report will be emailed to you.

NOTE: Candidates taking a remotely proctored exam must select to end both the exam portion and survey portion of the test in order to receive your on-screen results and emailed score report.

Step 4: Apply for your license. Pennsylvania resident applicants must use the online application service at NIPR or at Sircon.

Pennsylvania requires fingerprinting. It is recommended that you complete your licensing application before beginning the fingerprinting process. Candidates must visit the IdentoGO website here to schedule their reservation or call (844) 321-2101. You must indicate, when registering online, the service code for the Pennsylvania Insurance Department: 1KGBGJ.

Step 5: Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements. Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of CE each licensing period. ExamFX offers continuing education courses that will help you comply with your state’s requirements. Click here to view your state’s education rules and stay on top of your license.
