REQUIRED HOURS

Producers and adjusters in Utah must take 24 hours of continuing education each two (2) year renewal period, three (3) of the 24 hours must be in Ethics. Renewal date is the last day of the license issuance month, every 2 years, based on the year of issuance. All CE must be completed before submitting the renewal application. Carryover of CE hours is not allowed, and a course may not be taken more than once in any 2-year license renewal period.

Producers MUST complete at least 50% (12 hours) of their required CE in certified classroom/webinar or classroom equivalent courses. Up to 12 hours of CE may be completed with self-study courses.

CATEGORY RESTRICTIONS

Utah producers can take CE courses in any line of authority.

SPECIAL TRAINING

• LONG-TERM CARE TRAINING – Before a producer can sell or solicit Long-Term Care Insurance, they must complete a state approved, 3-hour Long-Term Care Training course. After completing the initial 3-hour Long Term Care Training Requirement, producers who continue to sell LTC insurance products must complete 3 hours of Long-Term Care CE every license period thereafter. Producers who have taken longer courses for other states, such as the 8-hour course based on NAIC content, will be able to use this training to meet Utah's requirements.

• ANNUITY BEST INTEREST TRAINING – Utah licensed producers must complete a one-time state approved Annuity Suitability Best Interest Standard course before selling, soliciting or negotiating any annuity products. The ExamFX Annuity Suitability and Best Interest course satisfies this requirement.

• FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING – Utah licensed producers who sell flood insurance are required to take a one-time 3- hour course approved for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

COURSE PRESENTATION

• CERTIFICATE EXAM – Licensees are required to pass the certificate exam with a 70% or better.

• STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – ExamFX recommends that all Study by Topic Quizzes are passed with a 70% or better.

• ATTESTATION – The attestation must be completed following the certificate exam.

CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION AND REPORTING

Your certificate of completion will be processed within two (2) business days and can be downloaded/printed from the "View Certificate(s)" link in the course launch portal.  Completions are normally reported to the state entities within two (2) business days of the certificate having been issued. There is a state charge of $1.25 fee per credit hour to report your completion. This fee will be charged prior to accessing the certificate exam.

NON-RESIDENT PRODUCERS

If you have satisfied the CE requirements of your home state, Utah will consider that as satisfaction of the CE requirements.

CE EXEMPTIONS

The following individuals are exempt from Utah CE requirements:

• Producers licensed before 4/1/1978 may request to be exempt from CE requirements.

• Producers whose license lapses due to military service, voluntary service for a period of time designated by the person for whom the licensee provides service, or other extenuating circumstances (i.e. medical disability), may be exempt from CE requirements.

• Producers who maintain the following designations: CLU, ChFC and RHU with completion of the PACE program, CPCU with completion of the CPD program, CFP, REBC, CIC, ACSR, CRM, SOFE, or IRES with completion of their CE requirements.

• Non-resident producers who have met the CE requirements of their home state with substantially similar CE.
