FLORIDA INSURANCE PRELICENSING INFORMATION

Florida requires producer licensing candidates to take and complete a state-approved prelicensing course. You will also need to apply for your license with the state insurance department and register for the state licensing exam. Make sure to register for all 3 (prelicensing course, license application, state exam) using the personally identifiable information exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID. Discrepancies will delay the licensing process.

DON'T FORGET YOUR READINESS EXAM

ExamFX is so confident in the quality of its material that we offer our customers a first-time pass guarantee. If you don’t pass the first time around, we will refund your money. To qualify for this offer, you must pass our Readiness Exam with a score of 80% to determine maximum exam readiness. While completing this portion of your online course is not required, we highly recommend taking this extra step.

HOW DO I GET MY LICENSE?

Step 1: Complete a prelicensing course that has been approved by the Department of Insurance. Once you have completed your course, ExamFX will issue a certificate of completion which you may download and print from your online ExamFX account. The certificate of completion is valid for four (4) years.

Step 2: Florida requires fingerprinting, and candidates can complete this requirement before the exam. You may register, pay, and find locations on the DFS website or by calling (800) 528-1358.

Additional licensing application guidance may be accessed, here. Once your application is complete, the Florida Department of Financial Services will notify you of your license or registration status by email and your MyProfile Account.

Step 3: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, Pearson VUE. The fastest way to schedule your exam is to do so online at Pearson VUE or call (888) 274-2020. Your exam may be taken at a physical Pearson Vue examination center or via a remote online proctored exam. Exam fees must be paid at the time of reservation.

To change or cancel your testing appointment, you must contact Pearson VUE at least 48 hours in advance or forfeit the examination fee.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you register for ExamFX prelicensing courses, schedule your license exam, and/or apply for your license it is important to use the same name that appears on the identification forms you plan to present at the time of your testing appointment.

Step 4: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you one valid form of government-issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.) which must contain your name and photograph. If the ID presented has an embedded signature that is not visible (microchip), or is difficult or impossible to read, the candidate must present another form of acceptable identification that contains a visible signature. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met.

You will receive a photo-bearing score report that is marked “pass” or “fail.” You will receive a score report that includes the numeric score and diagnostic information. If you fail your exam, you will also receive reexamination instructions.

Apply for your license. Florida resident applicants must use the online application service called MyProfile, accessible here.

Step 5: Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements. Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of continuing education each licensing period. ExamFX offers continuing education courses that will help you comply with your state’s requirements. Click here to view your state’s education rules and stay on top of your license.

WHAT WILL MY EXAM BE LIKE?

Your exam experience is dependent on the line of authority you are testing for, but all exams take place by computer. Review the exam summaries below.

The breakdown of testing topics can be found here.
